SCORE+ is back. We will be working together with you to assist you in completing the SCORE+ survey and discuss on how we can improve your SCORE+. We are also organizing Workshops to guide you on how you should fill up your SCORE+ template.
Just a little background on SCORE+.
SCORE+ Background
· MSC Malaysia SCORE+ Programme was launched on 19th of January, 2009 to redefine MDeC’s approach on Account and Portfolio Management and marks a major step forward for MDeC in changing our industry development outlook
· The MSC Malaysia SCORE+ Programme is a service offered by MDeC to obtain accurate information on all of the MSC Malaysia status companies.
· Given the rapidly changing demographical, economic and technological environments, the need for MSC Malaysia to shift its strategic profile from a capacity-driven profile to a market- driven one has never been more timely and appropriate.
· A practice of managing needs-based portfolios of MSC Malaysia Status companies which in turn will help MDeC to improve the necessary planning and decision-making process for developing, nurturing and accruing assistance to the companies.
· Our partnership with SME Corporation Malaysia is on-going. SME Corp started the ball rolling 18 months ago with their SCORE rating system for small and medium size enterprises. We share a common aspiration for a uniform rating and profiling method that can be shared across all verticals of industry.
Our findings:
SCORE+ 2009 Findings
· The overall results demonstrate that MSC Malaysia comprises mainly of competent companies with good financial and operational abilities, but there are still gaps in the aspects of Innovation and IP creation.
· We do not regard these gaps as fatal weaknesses, but as areas where MDeC and MSC Malaysia can provide better-focused support and to nurture a stronger and more resilient ICT ecosystem in Malaysia.
· SCORE+ is not an end-product. It is a fundamental programme that provides valuable input to our practice of managing portfolios of MSC Malaysia companies. While we will be designing and managing several portfolios, all of these fall under two main types: developmental portfolios and go-to-market portfolios.
· Examples of some portfolios in the go-to-market category include innovative security solutions, mobile games, e-government-citizen solutions and knowledge-process outsourcing (or “KPO”) for shared-services and outsourcing with clearer targets and partnerships with the companies.
· Developmental portfolios category program are those companies who require brand-management, R&D-capacity or financial management guidance to boost their competency capabilities.
· Each portfolio will have its own criteria and targets. With the combination of both SCORE+ and Global Portfolio Management, it is our vision to continuously optimise our resources and incentives towards “hitting the mark” in all that we do for MSC Malaysia.
· The 2009 MSC Malaysia SCORE+ Programme survey touched 874 local MSC Malaysia status SMEs. These companies account for 72.53% of the total companies that was profiled under the MSC Malaysia SCORE+ Programme 2009. In total, they contributed to RM4.73 billion in revenue, RM852 million in exports and 27,891 jobs for MSC Malaysia.
· MSC Malaysia status companies star ratings spread had a mean of 2.12 stars, with 9 of the companies falling in the 4 Star category and 202 companies rated as 3 Star and above
· MDeC’s current push will be the growth of companies, reflected by an increase in Star Ratings in their relevant portfolios. Moving the overall average upwards will be incorporated in MDeC’s submitted plans to MOSTI for RMK-10 through the use of MDeC programmes and incentives.
The MSC Malaysia SCORE+ Programme is most useful to companies as they can measure themselves on the value chain, with respect to their peers if not the market as a whole. This service evaluates competencies and gives companies an understanding of how MSC Malaysia rates them in a precise and transparent manner. There is no poor SCORE+ rating in the Programme, as all ratings are forwarded in a demand-driven method to the appropriate programme, or queued for potential programs to be created to address these gaps. MSC Malaysia SCORE+ Programme allows companies to see where they are within the MSC Malaysia status company ecosystem with respect to their competitiveness
