CYBERJAYA, 11 June 2009 – Jia Yu Home Entertainment Sdn Bhd (Jia Yu), a company owned by MSC Venture Capital - a subsidiary of Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), driver of the MSC Malaysia initiative, has signed a co-production deal with two China’s top television stations - Nanning TV and Changsa TV.
The deal will let the home grown International Chinese Channel to be the co – producer for the “2010 Chinese New Year (CNY) International Special Broadcast”, that will be aired live during the festive season.
The four and half hours duration programme will entice the friendship amongst the two countries and will feature creative talents, icons and content including artists, singers, animation icons and live action characters, as well as entertainment covering songs, dance, music, other entertainment values and cultural performances to showcase the culture and ethnic of the respective countries.
This crossover event will be broadcasted live via satellite to all the Asean countries and it is expected to attract 350 million viewers worldwide.
Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MDeC said the co-production deal marks a strong message that Malaysian creative multimedia content companies are capable of creating contents for the world and MSC Malaysia is poised to offer an enabling environment for companies to harness their full potential.
“I am confident that China can offer good business opportunities despite the current global economic crisis and the country’s facilities and environment are still conducive to global businesses. This will allow Malaysian businesses to do well to establish joint ventures with China companies to go global or even to access the huge China market,” he added.
Badlisham was speaking after the signing of memorandum of agreement (MoA) between Jia Yu and the two TV stations, Nanning TV and Changsa TV.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Datuk Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry Malaysia, and in the presence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during his recent official mission to Beijing, China. The MoA was held in conjunction to Matrade’s business forum which was held on the 4th of June at the China World Hotel.
At the event, Damien Leong, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jia Yu said the collaboration will go down in Malaysian history as Jia Yu will be the first ever Malaysian TV station to broadcast live in China for this inter-nation joint production.
“The 2010 CNY International Broadcast” is a key milestone for MSC Malaysia Creative Multimedia Content Initiative, which is led by MDeC.
The live show will be aired in Malaysia and China simultaneously and the audience reach will be amazing as the programme will be shown on prime time. “It is no doubt that this is a wonderful opportunity for Jia Yu to proudly showcase our Malaysian culture, our talented individuals and our creative Malaysian made content to the biggest and fastest growing market,” Leong said.
It is expected that this program will reach more than 350 million viewers worldwide. A selected number of ASEAN regions will also be fortunate enough to catch the anticipated CNY performances. The program will also make its way into the households of Hong Kong, America and Brunei.
Since year 2000, JiaYu has been actively working with various Chinese broadcasters in developing an international distribution platform for creative multimedia content from the two countries.
JiaYu Channel is available in Malaysia, Brunei, Hong Kong and North America and is rapidly expanding to reach other countries in the Asean, Asia Pacific and Australasia region.
